The author considers problems of front- and rear-wheel skids and gives test results. The characteristics of vehicles with either front or rear wheel drive are discussed, and tyres and road surfaces are considered. It is concluded that for optimum stability during the processes of braking or cornering, a vehicle must have a low centre of gravity, an even distribution of braking and cornering forces and proportional weight on the driving wheels. Improvements in road surfaces are recommended.
