Abstract
The opening of the Birmingham to London motorway, on 2nd November 1959, freed the British coach operators from the archaic law which governed their vehicles down to a maximum speed of 30 mile/h. To make full use of the motorways the construction of a high-speed coach was undertaken by the ‘Midland Red’.
