Abstract
Reference is made to the I.A.E. standards, S.M.M.T. data sheets, ‘Big Six’ and ‘Heavy Five’ standards, S.A.E. standards, B.S.I., ISO, D.E.F., Company standards and the handbook published by the S.M.M. & T., ‘Standards for the British Automobile Industry’.
Standards for purchasing, materials specifications, dimensional standards, production standards, and standard methods are also mentioned.
Standards in relation to restrictive trade practices and the relationship between National and International organizations and Government regulations are included.
It is stated that the adoption of standards should in most cases be voluntary and that use should be made of research in standards, for instance M.I.R.A. and R.R.L. and industrial research. Abbreviations used throughout are classified in an explanatory footnote†.
