Abstract
An elastic analysis is presented which provides formulae for the prediction of stress and displacement in an internally pressurized thin prismatic duct having three or more flat sides of equal size. Maximum stress in square and haxagonal ducts (of particulor significance in industrial designs) is compared with maximum stress in a circular tube having the same wall thickness and a mean radius equal in length to the maximum radius vector of the mean line in the flat-sided duct.
