It is shown that an analytical approach which has recently been formulated for the structural dynamics of ships is not dependent on the prismatic shape of a hull. Nor does it require the structure to be free of the sea-bed. On the contrary, the approach suggests a practical technique for stress-analysing marine vehicles and structures of all types—that is, insofar as linear theory is adequate.
