Abstract
Using the electrical analogy, a solution for the transmission of a continuous square wave down a pneumatic line has been obtained. The results are compared with experiment and show good agreement.
Using the theoretical results, it is possible to calculate the maximum separation between pneumatic (fluidic) devices that will still ensure satisfactory operation. Typically, it can be shown that at a frequency of 100 Hz, the output from a fluidic OR gate or bistable (see Appendix 1) may be transmitted 8 m and the amplitude of the signal will still be large enough at that point to switch a second OR gate or bistable.
