The friction in a lubricated point contact between a driven tungsten carbide ball sliding against a flat perspex plate is studied. Loads and speeds are varied to cover a wide range of conditions. Predictions based on established properties of the oil and straightforward elastohydrodynamic theory are compared with experiments. The range of application of various theories is discussed.
