This paper describes a combined eigenvalue and frequency response method for predicting the vibration characteristics, and particularly the receptances, of a system containing discrete sources of damping. This system typifies heavily damped engineering structures, like those of machine tools, and represents structures which have had damping introduced in the form of inserts. A simple model structure was used to demonstrate the application of the method.
