A choked or critical flow condition can occur in a two-phase flow similar to that which is observed in a single phase compressible flow. Choking occurs when the velocity of the fluid becomes equal to the rate at which a small rarefaction wave will propagate upstream in the flow. The influence of slip and departures from thermal equilibrium on the propagation velocity of a small rarefaction wave are demonstrated.
