Techniques for sampling single flank test results on grating equipment are discussed. The methods of analysis of the resultant pitch errors to separate out the errors of the two gears are given with a suitable computer programme. Master gear pitch errors can be eliminated by this approach, both for single and dual flank checkers.
The theoretical and practical problems of extending the method to complete car gearboxes with two meshes are discussed and suitable solutions given.
