A convenient means of obtaining the reference stress parameters for a structure is given which uses arbitrary dimensionless solutions of the structure's creep behaviour. This is done by developing a simple expression which uses the dimensionless stationary state deformation rates to define the reference stress. To derive the reference stress parameters for the structure only the stationary state solutions for two different values of the stress index are required.
