A method has been suggested whereby the increment in pressure due to inertia of the rotating fluid film at the periphery of a journal bearing can be estimated theoretically. The value of this increment, obtained from the experimental results by simple subtraction, agrees to within 15 per cent of the theory. The subtraction also leads to pressure distributions which agree well with isoviscous theory.
