Abstract
Bending stress expressions are derived using standard vibration methods for impact of the free end of a free-pinned beam on a rigid and a spring stop and these are shown for any cross-section shape to be independent of beam length or dimension of cross-section. Test results are presented suggesting confirmation of theory.
