A technique for determining upper bounds on displacements at chosen points of certain dynamically loaded elastic structures is presented. The technique is an extension of earlier work (1), and makes use of the classical potential energy theorem for structures in which displacements are small. In certain cases the method can be extended to finite displacements by involving a stability requirement. An example involving impulsive loading is given.
