The free flexural vibrations of open and closed rectangular boxes are considered; a theoretical solution using a sine series is presented. Natural frequencies and nodal patterns obtained using this analysis are compared with experimental results and the practical usefulness of the analysis is assessed. Although the assumed mathematical models are not true representations of the practical systems, the agreement achieved between theoretical and experimental results is shown to be good.
