It is difficult (if not impossible) to find the principal modes, natural frequencies and levels of damping of a structure by means of a resonance test if the structure happens to possess two (or more) close natural frequencies. Under the assumption that this condition does exist, the ability of each of the various techniques for extracting the modes and frequencies from resonance test results is investigated.
