The results of creep buckling experiments at 295°C on magnesium alloy specimens of two different diameters were compared with deflection rates predicted from a simple theory proposed by Alexander (1). Agreement was found to be adequate for design purposes, and within the scatter of the material data. The effect of eccentricity was evaluated and it was shown to have a negligible effect on bowing rates.
