Abstract
This paper is concerned with the response of a loaded, high-pressure hydraulic on-off servomechanism to sinusoidal and transient input signals. The hydraulic system is of conventional closed-loop configuration with the exception of the power element. This element is a solenoid-operated, on-off valve which is activated by electromechanical relays. The load is comprised of a mass, very heavy viscous damping and Coulomb friction. The system is subject to velocity limitation, and force reversal does not normally occur during a half-period of the input excitation. The describing function technique is used to evaluate the frequency response and piecewise linearization to evaluate the transient response. Experimental verification is included.
