A section is being set aside in the Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science for the publication of Research Notes and contributions are invited for inclusion in future issues. These should not exceed 1000 words in length and should be accompanied by not more than two illustrations. They need not necessarily be related specifically to any previously published paper in the Journal, as contributions on these lines will continue as before to be published as Communications. The first two such Notes are published below.
