The need for a static and fatigue testing machine for aircraft rotor discs is shown and a suitable hydraulic loading machine is described. A description is also given of the design and development of a variable delivery pulsator for supplying pressure pulses to the hydraulic loading rig. The experimental technique is explained.
Some of the differences between the method of test and operating conditions are discussed and photographs of two types of failure are included.
