In this paper a plastic work method is used to examine the strength of cylindrical pressure vessels with circumferential reinforcing bands. The theory is based on a rigid-plastic material. The results are expressed in terms of two dimensionless parameters, one representing the volume and quality of the reinforcing band material, and the other its distribution.
