The feasibility of the long-term relief of tension from healing wounds by the application of adhesive tapes has been investigated. The characteristics of a tape which would be suitable for this purpose are described and the results of in vitro and in vivo tests on several currently available products are reported. It is concluded that a satisfactory tape for the long-term relief of tension from a wound is not yet available.
