Abstract
The thermal behaviour during high temperature creep tests of Ni-based super-alloy specimens with electron-beam physical vapour deposited thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) applied for thermal and corrosion protection is studied. Finite-element models were used to model the thermal transients and steady state phases of the creep tests. The thermal stabilization time was estimated to be between 0.5 and 3 h. The temperature gradients within TBCs, under testing conditions, were found to be negligible.
