Abstract
Abstract
The structural vibration suppression of beam-type structures using multiple-tuned-mass-dampers (MTMD) technology will be investigated in this study through the experimental set-up. A novel realization of the MTMD design will be developed, in which an aluminium beam with attached small masses will be designed as the MTMD system, and then connected to the primary structure being a uniform steel beam. The governing equation of motion of beam-type structures with the attached MTMD system developed in the finite-element formulation has been combined with a designed optimization procedure to determine the optimum values of the design variables in the developed MTMD system to suppress the vibration levels effectively. The validity of the developed optimal MTMD system design strategy has been verified through experimental study.
