Abstract
A specific articulated interurban train consists of two railcars connected with joints to an intermediate passenger cabin without bogies. It is modelled by a plane three-body linkage mechanism guided at two points along a given trajectory with a prescribed velocity of the front point, resulting in a closed-loop multi-body system. The problem is analysed by means of a symbolic-numerical method leading to ordinary differential equations in minimal coordinates. This approach proves advantageous particularly for trajectories with discontinuities of curvature.
