A simple and efficient method for estimating the average seal contact face temperature, surface temperature, and heat partitioning factor between the rings of a mechanical seal is presented. The method takes into account both heat conduction and convection. Design charts applicable to a variety of ring shapes are developed, and a series of examples are presented to illustrate their validity.
