Abstract
The application of oral tribology is a rapidly growing and expanding field. This article deals with the main problems of oral tribology, such as dental wear, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and saliva. Main progress in these topics obtained by the authors and from the literatures is reviewed. Wear of human teeth, restorative materials, and their applications to archaeology have been emphasized. Tribological behaviours of saliva and TMJ have been presented. The problems and challenges of fundamental research in oral tribology have been discussed at the end of the article.
