Abstract
The characteristics of flow in a centrifugal impeller with different stagger angle along the blade span and unequally spaced blades were investigated using particle image velocimetry (PIV). Instantaneous and averaged velocity measurements were carried out at the inlet, outlet, inside blade passage, around blade, and around scroll of the centrifugal impeller by synchronizing the passage of the blade with laser and camera system. These measurements revealed detailed flow features at the operating point of the centrifugal impeller with and without scroll. The data from the PIV measurements were used to analyse the performance of the centrifugal impeller.
