Abstract
Abstract
Energy and exergy analyses are investigated for cogeneration-based district energy systems. In the analyses, exergy methods, in addition to the more conventional energy analysis, are employed to evaluate overall and component efficiencies and to identify and assess thermodynamic losses. Exergy analysis provides an enhanced understanding of the characteristics of energy systems and can assist design and improvement efforts. A case study is presented to highlight the importance of district energy systems and to illustrate how exergy analysis can be efficiently and effectively applied to such systems to determine system and component efficiencies. The results should assist in the enhancement of both cogeneration-based district energy systems and simulation techniques for building energy systems.
