Abstract
Abstract
Detailed manufacturing information about the part being designed can help the designer to specify appropriate manufacturing methods and satisfy cost constraints. A prototype concurrent design system has been developed in which information concerning features in the design is provided to the designer. The information supplied includes manufacturability assessment, machining schemes, cutting tool types and cutting parameters, the tolerances and surface finish to be achieved and pure machining times. The system extracts geometrical and technological information regarding a part from its computer aided design (CAD) model and generates the required manufacturing information.
