In the manufacture of plywood, it is necessary to inspect the veneer sheets for surface defects. The high production speeds involved call for automated visual inspection. This paper presents a new automated method for finding surface defects in images of wood veneer. The method is accurate, executes quickly and employs standard hardware-based image processing functions.
