After a brief review of failure criteria for anisotropic materials, a new parametric failure criterion for fibre-reinforced laminae under plane stress loading conditions is presented. Using previously published experimental data for paper-board, it is shown that this criterion can lead to an improved correlation between experimental data and analytical failure envelopes for this material.
