A simple procedure for estimating the stress intensity factor of a continuous crack at the root of a circumferential notch in a round bar is presented. Numerical solutions for equivalent notched and un-notched geometries are compared. The resulting correction term for notches is formulated as a polynomial equation using only notch geometric parameters and is used in conjunction with the conventional stress intensity calibration for the un-notched configuration.
