Abstract
Abstract
A computational study was made of the effects of end boundary conditions on wide plates in tension. Results showed minimal effects for long gauge lengths, i.e., h > W. These were also compared with theoretical predictions of gross section stress at initiation to tearing, and revealed an effect on J contour values for short gauge lengths of OCT and SENT geometries, as predicted by theory. Other analyses offered are use of estimation procedures, comparison of limit loads, and relationship with η.
