Abstract
The stresses in the lug of a pin-lug assembly can be easily calculated using a finite element model of the lug, provided the load distribution is known. Described in this paper is a technique which utilizes the finite element mesh of the lug to model the loading on the lug at the pin-lug interface. The technique has been incorporated into a finite element program which was then used to calculate the stresses in the lug. These calculated results, assuming a rigid pin and negligible friction between the pin and the lug, were compared with those obtained from a photoelastic study and agreement was found to be good.
