Abstract
A method of measuring the flexural stiffness properties of anisotropic thin plates is presented. Three rhombic plates cut at different orientations from the test sheet are loaded in bi-axial bending, and the resulting deflections are recorded as fringe patterns using optical holography. Curvatures determined in the chosen coordinate system and related to the bending moments are used to calculate the flexural stiffness terms. The results of tests on cross-ply carbon fibre reinforced plastic material are in good agreement with laminated plate theory.
