The ‘frozen deformation’ method has been used to determine the deformations of the hub, taper-sleeve, and shaft of a flanged coupling as used in marine gear boxes.
Hydraulic mounting caused gaps between hub and sleeve over most of the length of the hub. Contact occurred at the ends of the hub only. with the sleeve in tension or in compression during mounting. The presence of a flange at either end of the coupling did not change the above significantly.
