A description is given of a simple mechanism which was developed to simulate a system of variable-stiffness elastic base supports for a coupled shear wall structure. A system of cantilevers was used to enable both vertical and rotational base flexibilities to be provided, the two being independently variable over the required range of relative stilesses.
An example is given of the use of the system in a model investigation of a three-dimensional shear wall structure.
