Abstract
Abstract
The effects of shape and position of load application on the magnitude and position of the peak stresses are determined from photoelastic models. Stress concentration factors for any practical application can be quickly determined from the results. Minimum stress concentration factors for loaded projections are compared with published values for (unloaded) shouldered plates in tension. Optimum proportions which give minimum stress in various design situations are also presented.
