Abstract
Abstract
An approximate analysis is presented for the computation of buckling loads of biaxially compressed, simply supported, rectangular, moderately thick, laminated plates. The analysis is based on the use of reduced plate stiffnesses as well as shear correction factors. By comparing the approximate buckling loads with those obtained from a full 3-dimensional analysis, it is demonstrated that the approximate analysis is sufficiently accurate for design purposes. A computer programme based on the approximate analysis is then used to derive a reasonably comprehensive set of dimensionless buckling-load vs plate-thickness-ratio curves.
