The machine is used for the creep-rupture testing of metallic plate specimens at temperatures up to 210°C. A deadweight lever arrangement exerts independent steady tensile loads of up to 8 tons to cruciform plate specimens 9 in wide and 0.25 in thick; the central uniformly stressed region of the specimen is thinned to a thickness of 0.190 in.
