The frozen-stress photoelastic technique has been used to determine stresses in hubs and diaphragms. Different hub sizes and shapes were studied for a typical shape of flat disc (middle surface plane). Shape and size are related to peak stresses.
Conical discs, with different cone angles but having the same mass, were analysed and shown to be more highly stressed than flat discs.
