Abstract
In the present paper, the problems of the bending of a uniformly loaded circular plate are treated, which is supported by a crossed and tapered beam grid formed of two beams intersecting at the centre of the plate at right angles. In the case where the beam stiffeners are not welded to the circular plate, gaps between the plate and the beams may partially open according to the beam taper and support conditions of the plate and the beams. Thus, a method to find contact parts between the plate and the beams is proposed. Stress and deflection results using the proposed method are presented in dimensionless graphical form for different beam tapers and support conditions of the plate and the beams.
