Abstract
A new static yield criterion was reported previously by Wang and Dixon with a function of the stress state as well as a material property (the ratio of ty/Sy), which includes the maximum shear stress theory and the von Mises-Hencky theory as special cases. To evaluate this static yield criterion, experimental tests on steels under a combination of static tensile and torsional loading were conducted. The result shows that the new criterion appears to fit the very limited experimental data
