Abstract
In this article, I encourage psychology teachers to consider the ways a course on hate crimes encourages students to adopt a more integrated view of the world by experiencing themselves differently. I present information about a course on hate crimes and discuss the awareness changes that occur in students. I describe the process by which students confront and come to understand the subject matter and its relation to real-world problems. I also highlight the way this course incorporates the contributions, expertise, and perspectives of groups historically excluded from the academy.
