Abstract
Laboratories in physiological psychology often require the use of expensive equipment and the debatable ethics of using animals for surgical demonstration. This article describes an optional and independent laboratory, the Biolog, that emphasizes a macro-analysis of physiological functioning, rather than the microanalysis of traditional physiological laboratory exercises. In the Biolog, students select physiological functions that they self-monitor. Feedback suggests that students value this experience and find it a useful adjunct to learning about physiological functioning.
