Abstract
An exercise helps students appreciate the extent of Sigmund Freud's influence on modern American culture. Students indicate their agreement or disagreement with 15 statements reflecting the traditional Freudian perspective. Statements and students' responses are the catalyst for a discussion of psychoanalytic principles and Freudian influence. One graduate and three undergraduate introductory psychology classes found the exercise to be thought provoking, helpful, and useful in making them realize Freud's influence on American culture.
