Poster sessions are considered to be an efficient format for presenting research. A departmental student research convocation using this format is described and shown to be an effective way to encourage research activities among undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the convocation had the benefit of communicating to faculty and students the variety of scholarly activities being conducted in the department.
