Abstract
This paper reports the progress made, over an eighteen month period, by an ad hoc committee of the Structural Engineers′ Association of Southern California in the development of guidelines to be followed if consistent experimental investigations, representative of the structural performance of mixed material systems under strong seismic excitation, are to be achieved.
Aspects covered include the issue of load or deflection control, the rate of load application, the pattern of repetitive load or displacement application, the number of components or systems to be tested and the interpretation of the results.
