Abstract
The demand for a high level of quality assurance and quality control in the induction hardening of engineering components has led to the design of an integrated control system. This system provides computer control of all the factors involved in heating and cooling during the induction hardening heat treatment cycle. These factors include the preparatory treatments, induction hardening, post-hardening treatments (tempering), testing, inspection, and mechanical transfer of the hardened components. By monitoring the data on all heat treated products, this system provides a reliable quality assurance method for all such induction hardened products. This method of quality assurance of the induction hardening process also provides for energy savings in the heat treatment of automotive parts.
